Oliver Petiffer scores a place on the GBCT Foundation Sprint Apprentice Programme
01/10/2021
Oliver and I have been working together for the last year, and as result of Olly's hard work, he will be joining the GBCT Youth foundation Programme as a Sprint Apprentice. Below is praise from his Dad Simon...
’We’d like to thank Chester for his help over the last 12 months. Olly has thoroughly enjoyed the structured program set which has taken all of the guess work out of training. He has been considerate to Ollys schoolwork and made sure of a well balanced plan. The regular contact has been fantastic and has made Olly feel comfortable with discussing his training. We are so happy that this has resulted in Olly being offered a place in the Great British Cycling Team Foundation Programme, such a huge result…..thank you Chester!’

TOM DAY SIGNS FOR THE SEG RACING ACADEMY FOR 2021 ONWARDS
08/10/2020
We are delighted to announce the signing of British talent, Tom Day, who will join the SEG Racing Academy structure in 2021. Day will join our program straight from the juniors ranks, in which he has emerged as one of the most prominent prospects in the UK, seizing the British National Time Trial title as well as success on the track. “The SEG Racing Academy has a very exciting racing calendar which will provide me with opportunities to race a wide variety of classics and stage races across Europe, enable me to learn my profession and earn my wings in the U23 ranks” points out the 18-year old.
The multi-talented British talent has been accumulating experience and results in both, the road and the track, and joins the Academy with the aim of further his development as a rider on and off the bike. In the short and compressed 2020 season, Tom Day took the overall win in the Boucles de l’Oise, after winning the time trial in a very convincing way. “I would like to continue to strengthen and achieve some big results in the time trials and improve as an overall U23 rider. I’m keen to explore how I can adapt to support and bring success to the team in other areas too, such as lead outs and some of the longer climbing stages.
Aike Visbeek, SEG Racing Academy Director:
“We have been following Tom’s progress for a while now and we are very happy of adding him to our project for the upcoming season. He is a very talented rider and he really impressed us not only with the tests he did but also with the results he achieved so far. He is a very skilled rider when racing against the clock, but he has a lot of other qualities that he will improve while being on the Academy, so we are very exciting to starting this journey”.

SIMON BROOKS - LVRC ROAD RACE CHAMPION (45-49yrs)

I have been coached by Dr Chester Hill for the past 9 years and during that time I have achieved some of the very best results of my 30 years of competitive cycling.
What makes Chester such an excellent coach? In my opinion Chester combines a number of characteristics that I haven’t experienced with any of my previous coaches: He listens carefully and asks questions and then reflects before adjusting the training prescriptions. He is also very organised. Training always arrives on time. This may sound simple, but he is the first coach I have found where I have never had to chase for my training programs. He is open to new and different ways of training. He then assess the outcomes of the new routines before making them part of any regular program.
He has an excellent knowledge base, from his PhD, his time working for British Cycling and the years of coaching experience. Chester continues to have a thirst for knowledge and keeps in tune with some of the latest thoughts in training and thinks of the practical application for his clients. Thank you Chester!

JOHN HYDE, VC ST RAPHAEL

Before joining Chester I used to train with focus, but not really train the right areas just what I thought was good. I use power for training and had a good understanding of that but not so much the science behind it.
Chester got me focused more on training for the events that I was riding rather than just training. He also helped out a lot with tactics and nutrition so brought the whole package to the table. The sessions he got me doing were hard and varied which was good too, so as to not get bored with doing the same old training over and over again.
Chester is very approachable, easy to talk to and a friend as well as a coach. He has an excellent knowledge base and keeps up to date with the latest buzz words in training. He is also open to feedback with regards to sessions and mixing them up a bit based on outputs from races which is really good.

JOE TRUMAN GAINS A PLACE ON THE GREAT BRITAIN OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Joe’s main target for the year was to work towards GB Talent Team selection for 2013. With Chester's help, guidance, support and mentoring Joe achieved this target! The key to this achievement was Chester working closely with Joe and I in a collaborative approach to define at the start of the year his main targets and then defining a programme designed to give Joe the best chance of succeeding.
Chester has a great approach to coaching – making sure that the rider has the maximum opportunities to progress both with his own sessions and defining other opportunities available. The WattBike testing was particularly valuable in being able to practice the protocols before the Talent Team selection camp.
I would recommend Chester to any rider looking to reach their goals whatever they may be...
